As someone who has also worked with North Korea, I just want to remind you that this country is the best protected country in the world with respect to nuclear attack. They have the best underground shelter system in the world, by far. Just keep this in mind.

If a country can be called neurotic, then NK is the prime case; you cannot really call it psychotic because its fears are based on fact and experience. The point here being that in a real sense we in the West (especially the US) created North Korea.

I had the honor of serving in the US military in Korea. I have watched for many years the struggles with this old line Stalinist state.
We can only glean from the paltry information we find in the open. Clearly this is the worst I have ever seen things and that tells me something is up.
I have always suspected that China uses NK as a foil of sorts. Clearly it is not in their interest to see us in our current positions in the area.
Could this be a prelude to a short sharp war to test the NPA's newfound military strength? NK could easily infiltrate many companies of soldiers dressed as SK units via tunnels and start a shooting war and making it look like it was started by the South. China would be obligated to step in and protect NK via their Treaty.
Weak and starving the NK army needs to get back to its farming role soon. Desperate times calls for desperate measures. Aid is needed desperately and no help is on the horizon.
It the rumors of internal military conflict inside NK are true then things could turn ugly. Add to that a strong female leader running South Korea and the stage could be set for a long series of ugly standoffs similar the Soviets testing a young Kennedy in the 60’s.
It may not end well for most, as always a few insiders will gain something.

Consider NK as an adolescent shooter tranked up, primed and run by anti-depressants. A useful MK-Ultra zombie that can be activated with a trigger word. Now one more option for the secret crew to use for a PR stunt or the big one. A piece to be sacrificed when things are set up just right.

North Korea is a hermit civilization and their whole mentality of things to this very day is self reliance and strong willed determination. When people in the west say that they can't understand why the NK let's their people starve it is because they don't get the North Koreans drive for independence and hatred western imperialism. ( or what they perceive as imperialism)
The North Koeans are very conservative from what I understand and even like worship John Wayne and love old westerns. They are literally in a 1950's time warp due to their isolation. I believe it is this isolation that has lead to their overall irrationality and as well as the fact the government focuses so heavily on the past with their museums , paid for culture, and brainwashing. This all means that the people are literally still stuck in the Korean war and collectively fantasize about the destroying the US.
The US pretty much crushed them in during the war and even today with their extremely harsh sanctions things haven't changed much when comes to debilitating these people . For a people so prideful as well as so irrational it is in the realm of very real possibility for things to escalated further and we shouldn't doubt the Koreans are more prepared than we think.
