Given the amount of usage high speed rail gets in other countries, the risk appears to be acceptable....at least that's what I get out of your link....although the idea of a crazy driver trying to register on the cops' radar and taking the train at 50% more speed into the curve than it is permitted to go...chilling.... What is YOUR opinion....I have long wished for high speed rain here...one running between NYC, Philadelphia, Harrisburg, makes lots of sense on the east coast. Not sure about the earthquake prone area on the West Coast.

The rail is more or less the problem most of the time, how do you protect this and safe guard? There are many controls integrated into these systems to prevent speed problems, I firstly question what is being stated.
The rail would have to be separated from the population and wildlife. Are you aware grouped animals on rail have caused train derailments?
The technology is old and needs updated. Steel wheels on steel tracks wear very quickly, both, very costly to maintain. They are not providing you with all the details, doesn't take much for derailments.
The technology needs updated....definitely.
