Whose moral standards will be used? And if the robot continues to 'grow', won't it challenge these standards, just as humans do? So what are we really talking about? A set of 'controls, perhaps for 'unauthorized behavior? Good luck with that! The Office of Naval Research will award $7.5 million in grant money over five years to university researchers from Tufts, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Brown, Yale and Georgetown to explore how to build a sense of right and wrong and moral consequence into autonomous robotic systems www.defenseone.com/technology/2014/05/now-military-going-build-robots-have-morals/84325/?oref=d-topstory

Quoting you, Adaptation is about 'the understanding of vulnerabilities'.
This is an interesting concept that I've never seen expressed before. Certainly a lot of adaptation is related to that. In humans, I would think that self-interest might be another motivator for adaptation.
I read somewhere that semi-human robots produced with human bodies grown specifically for AI interface may be used. These, because of the biological vulnerabilities would seem to be more adaptable to moral programming. It would seem likely that experimentation with animals, primates or dogs has already been done if the above is being considered. And, the most likely place for this to be taking place would seem to be Asia.

Thanks for the ferro fluid info. I didn't see that on my first reading and went back to the post to get specifics to search ferro fluids...so either I didn't scroll down or you added this as an edit. Very interesting, thanks.
