The complete and total failure of one of the key elements of democracy is the most important story in 2013. And the demise and collapse of this dysfunctional element will be the biggest story of 2014. And what is this element? The mainstream media.
When looking over the list of stories and events in the past year, the crushing impact of all of them combined on the citizenry has been unequaled in decades. And yet, the major news media have focused on divisive issues rather than making any effort to report the perils to all of us.
And just as placing more people in a hammock designed for one will create an inevitable collapse, the continued avoidance of weighty issues will eventually cause the collapse of mainstream media.
Just as the dollar will not physically disappear in the collapse of the dollar, should it occur, so too, the mainstream media will still be evident in the near term. However, no one will be watching. The 24/7 news organizations who are reading White House press releases verbatim rather than researching issues, will lose viewers until many will be cut to a skeleton crew. And daily newspapers across the country have become advertising vehicles whose major 'news' is the paid obituaries and sales at local grocery stores.
And following closely on the heels of the demise of mainstream media, will be accelerated disintegration of the quality of life for the average person. While people have adjusted to gradually lowering standards of living, the continued acceleration of this trend will start to seep through the daily consciousness. And this trend will likely not be covered by the media. It will become the talk at all the gatherings of humanity and build a ground swell of purely local news from which will rise some enterprising individuals who through blogs or locally handed out news flyers, will start to unite the awakening citizenry.
And this trend of getting local news from alternate sources will propel the rise of the current alternative news sources into the stratosphere, which will bring a major clamp down on alternate media by the government in a failed attempt to stem the tide of truth seeping out through the cracks in government control.
